Feast of the seven fishes, an Old World tradition served in Italian-American
households on La Vigilia (Christmas Eve). The meal consists of course
after course of exceptionally prepared seafood dishes, often as many
as 7, 10, or even 13. The significance of the number of courses varies
from household to household, some families say it is seven for the
sacraments to as many as 13 for the 12 apostles plus Jesus.
